This is an incredible resource for the embroideress or the costumer or the historian. These are the actual patterns that women used in the early nineteenth century from a contemporary publication. I'm an embroiderer and I bought these for eventual use. I will have to see if the images can be transferred from Kindle to a photo program on the computer, but the designs are beautiful and could still be used in modern clothes, especially on the borders of skirts and dresses. Elements of the designs could be used on t shirts too. I look forward to experimenting with these hard to find antique patterns. Household linens would be another place these Georgian designs would be shown to best advantage. Elegant, stylized florals without the fussiness of the Victorians. Highly recommended to specialists, not a lot of text on the history, but that's all right as this book is meant to showcase the patterns for use and study. A labor of love on the part of the author.
Not worth buying. It's just pictures of regency era embroidery. Could have done a google search and gotten better results. Disappointing.
This book is full of lovely antique designs....love it
After reading the author's caveats to buyers (thank you, author) and the complaining reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Opted to buy the Kindle version just to give it an inexpensive look see and am happily surprised. In fact I just went back and bought the book version too.I don't see any great difficulty with using these for a pattern if you have access to some basic graphics software. Throw a screencap into Photoshop, increase the contrast if needed (most won't need it from what I can see), size to fit your garment's area, print and trace. Not terribly difficult. You *will* have to decide which stitch to use yourself, but I believe that's what ladies of this era did too.Bottom line: If you're willing to be a little adventurous creatively, this is a treasure, especially for historical costuming. If you want step-by-step instructions for reproducing the designs you'll be disappointed.
Fascinating to look at, but don't expect it to be one that you can use to make patterns very easily.
Love this book.
Getting the file to open was not fun.
Love this book. A great reference book for anyone who loves needlework and the Regency era. Highly recommend.
