I just sped through this entire book in a weekend, but I'll definitely be coming back to reread sections of it.Honest, moving, funny, and seriously persuasive book on running for something - anything. Litman is right, we need to stop complaining and do something about the ongoing nightmare that is post-2016 Election Day.I'd already known that I wanted to do SOMETHING, but this book gives you concrete examples of what anyone can do. It doesn't matter who you are, there's something you can do, and Litman does a great job of breaking down just HOW your actions will matter. I'm sure everyone's heard that "local elections matter"... but you're still left wondering how. This book makes a good case for the power of local politics, and will leave you feeling a bit more empowered than before.So anyway, read this and then run for something.

Something countless political biographies and memoirs touch on the experience of, but almost no one who breaks down the nuts and bolts. This covers the how and the why of getting involved in a way that makes it a very, very quick read. And as someone obsessed with paper texture, etc. the publisher put together a book that really *feels* like a manual. Very, very cool.
The book has a very fast-paced narrative and is fun to read. It does at times go into the “silly†but I think that is just how the author chose to convey her style. I can appreciate the desire to have a good sense of humor in these trying times. If you are looking for a book about running for office, this is a good start and there are others on the way.
I've worked in campaigns (including one with Amanda!) and she's boiled down the things you really need to know in a usable, useful, informative and funny guide. A must for anyone considering running for office!

A good book
Very very timely in consideration of the fact that we need severe changes in our Washington Political scene.
This book was so well done - it is engaging, informative and motivating. I actually borrowed it from the library first, but it contained so many gems of wisdom, I wound up buying it. The book is geared toward younger women running as Democrats and it nails its mark. Thank you Amanda Litman for such a well-written, well-researched, how-to book to get involved.
