I have several other books in this series so decided to purchase this one on shapes. I am using it to teach my toddler his shapes.This is a cardboard book which is perfect for a small child. The pages are thick and easy for the child to turn. The colors and images are large and colorful. The majority of the images are flat instead of textured. I would have preferred it to be more textured. I also don't like when the pages are open wide you see different shapes together. For a small child it is easier to only see one shape type at a time. One thing I really like is how they put a picture to represent shapes such as the pentagon on the soccer ball. I found the rhombus on the shirt; however, to be a little too advanced for a toddler to understand.This is a cute book, well made, just needs a little more designing on the layout and way the shapes are put into the book.
I love this series of books. LOVE. Love them. We own all of them. However, two negative things that I did/do not like about ordering these books are : First, the shape work book, I'm truly afraid that one of my littles or myself even, will get a paper cut from tracing the indented shapes on some of the pages. So we don't practice our sensory learning on those pages. The shapes are so sharp! Beware! However, the book and what, and how it teaches, superb. A+ even. Second, I ordered the rest of the book series after buying the Letter Work book and to my surprise, all three books came in one of those tan envelopes. When I opened my mailbox the books flew out at me and hit the ground- in the rain! The books were wayyyyyy to heavy for that kind of packaging and ripped a huge hole towards the top of the seal. Thankfully there was no water damage to the books. So that does show the quality of these wonderful books. Great for introducing Montessori to your littles.
I would not recommend this series for a Montessori classroom until the page sequence is revised. The required page flip between introducing the concept and the tracing page is too confusing for young learners.
I thought these were kind of uninteresting and neutral little books but boy did my toddler love them! His favorite books for like a year. I highly recommend these. My favorite was the shapes book since, unlike most, it's accurate in it's categorizations and terminology. Baby shapes and colors books are super annoying to me in large part because they're like the visual equivalent of "near rhymes". Ugh. This, however, takes care to be precise. My toddler found this to be his #3 of the 4 (although he'd pull them all out and go through each one every day) - his #1 was the map work. I'm still giving the whole set 5 star reviews because they were all (to my surprise) deeply interesting to my 2 year old. The whole concept is apparently really appealing to them!
My Baby-Cakes loves this book. He loves to 'read' the shapes and tell what they are. This is a quality book. It is made very well and would last a very long time.
My son loves this series of books. The textured pages are fun for the kids and the bright colors and simple layout is really engaging for kids. I love that it is sturdy and would be really hard for my son to tear up.
My eighteen month old granddaughter loves this book. Good quality
My kids love these books!! We have all but the maps one.
